FIELD: machine engineering, namely production of piston rings, locking rings and other types of slit rings. SUBSTANCE: helix is wound from shaped steel band and simultaneously band is quenched at 900-1200<SP>o</SP>C. Then helix is cut by separate rings assembled in pack and clamped. Rings scragged in axial direction are tempered at temperature no more than 600<SP>o</SP>C and simultaneous they are subjected to thermal fixation along plane. Then rings are subjected to thermal stabilization at temperature no more than 350<SP>o</SP>C. EFFECT: enhanced geometry and operational properties of rings.
