PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce an initial activating process while restraining an additional complicated chemical treatment by adding a hydrogen releasing catalyst to hydrogen storage alloy powder while it is carried by conductive carrier powder. SOLUTION: A hydrogen releasing catalyst is mixed into a hydrogen storage alloy while it is carried by carrier powder. The catalysts do not stick to each other and are not turned into a ball, even if they are extremely made fine, e.g. to an atom level, and accordingly there is no decrease in its effect. Preferably, as the carrier powder, carbon powder is used. Since the carbon powder has an excellent conductivity and chemical stability, as well as a large surface area, it is effective. As the catalyst, at least one of nickel, platinum and paradium can be used, preferably nickel. The average particel diameter of the carbon powder used as the conductive carrier powder is 15-400 nm and its surface area is 5 m<3> /g or more, preferably. |
