<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable voltage control of a nonlinear thin film only by controlling a voltage applied to scanning electrodes, and enable omission of a voltage supply wiring to pixel electrodes on the nonlinear thin film, by making the pixel electrodes intersect a plurality of scanning electrodes via the nonlinear thin film whose permitivity can be changed by an applied voltage. SOLUTION: A nonlinear thin film device is used in a matrix liquid crystal display or the like, and a material layer 42 where the aligned state of molecules is changed by an applied voltage is interposed between one signal electrode 39 and a plurality of pixel electrodes 34. The respective pixel electrodes 34 intersect a plurality of scanning electrodes 32 via a nonlinear thin film 33 whose permitivity can be changed by an applied voltage, on the side different from the material layer 42. The respective pixel electrodes 34 intersect a plurality of the different scanning electrodes 32, in the first direction, and hold the material layer 42 where the aligned state of molecules is changed by an applied voltage between the electrodes 34 and the same signal electrode 39. In the second direction, the respective pixel electrodes 34 intersect a plurality of the same scanning electrodes 32, and hold the material layer 42 where the aligned state of molecules is changed to the signal electrodes 39 which are different from each other.</p> |
