PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the color balance of a projected image in a projection display device. SOLUTION: The display device is provided with three liquid crystal(LC) light bulbs 250, 252, 254 for modulating three color light components of red, green and blue based on an applied picture signal and exiting the modulated color light components. These LC light bulbs 250, 252, 254 are respectively provided with insident side polarizing elements 250a, (252a, 254a), LC devices 250b, (252b, 254b) and exit side polarizing elements 250c, (252c, 254c). In this case, the degree of polarization of the exit side polarizing plate 254c of the blue LC light bulb 254 is set up to a value higher than a conventional value and the degrees of polarization are descended in the order of the elements 254c, (252c, 250c) formed on the light bulbs 254, 252, 250. |
