PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform compression processing for inputted image data in real time while assuring compression rate by instructing re-compression of data to be compressed according to a counting result and simultaneously controlling a compression parameter, based on frequency of compression of the data to be compressed and a detection result of storage amount. SOLUTION: The re-compression of the data to be compressed is instructed to a variable length compression means according to the counting result of a counting means, and the compression parameter of the variable length compression means is controlled at the same time, based on the compression frequency of the data to be compressed and the detection result of a storage amount detecting means. In this device, when the compression rate is detected as exceeding a target compression rate, i.e., the target compression rate is not achieved by a counter part 134, a fact of the re-compression is notified to a JPEG part 133, the parameter is controlled so that the compression rate becomes higher and the re-compression is started by a control part 135. In addition, the compression parameter is controlled, so that no re-compression is generated according to the storage amount from a storage amount detecting part 132. |
