PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a reliability by avoiding an abnormal discharge of a plasma display device. SOLUTION: A display cell 1 has an upper substrate 4 joined to a middle substrate 3 through a prescribed clearance, an electro-optical material 7 held in the clearance, a column shaped signal electrode 5 formed on the upper substrate 4. A plasma cell 2 is provided with a lower substrate 8 forming a sealed space joined to the middle substrate 3 through a prescribed clearance, a gas for discharge filled in the space, a row shaped discharge electrode 9 that generates a discharge in the space formed by the lower substrate 8 made of glass, and a substrate coating 13 interposing between the discharge electrode 9 and the lower substrate 8. The substrate coating 13 mainly contains a glass with a lower melting point than that of the lower substrate 8 and includes a filler so as to approach an expansion ratio of the lower substrate 8. The filler consists of Li2 O, MgO, Al2 O3 , or SiO2 , and it is metallic oxide that easily scatters by a sputtering effect of the discharge even if it is reduced by the discharge in the space. |
