<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To miniaturize a radar apparatus and to enhance its accuracy. SOLUTION: Transmitting waves being electromagnetic waves are transmitted to the front of a vehicle from a transmitting antenna 33 while their angle of radiation direction is being changed. A receiving antenna 34 receives reflected waves reflected by a target. A distance computing circuit 43 computes the relative distance between the target and a radar apparatus 31. A level detection circuit 41 detects the reception field intensity of the reflected waves. A signal processing circuit 44 finds the distribution of the reception field intensity of the reflected waves while a measuring direction and the relative distance are used as parameters, and it computes the position and the size of the target on the basis of the distribution. As a result, the position and the size of the target can be computed precisely without narrowing the beam width of the transmitting waves.</p> |
