PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a magneto-resistance effect type magnetic head to operate constantly for a long time even when a magneto-resistance effect element is worn by a sliding with a magnetic recording medium by gradually narrowing the interval between the joint surface between a magneto-resistance effect element and a first conductor and the joint surface between the element and a second conductor according to the distance from the sliding surface with the magnetic recording medium. SOLUTION: The MR head element 4 of a magneto-resistance effect type magnetic (MR) head is provided with an MR element part 8 which is held by first and second substrate films with first and second insulating films and which is provided on the sliding surface with the magnetic recording medium. Moreover, external terminals 11a, 11b are provided at respective one edges of leader conductors 10a, 10b drawn out from permanent magnet films 9a, 9b being at both end parts of the MR element part 8. When, in the element part 8, the length T of longer sides, the height H, the film thickness (d) and a limit abrasion quantity are respectively made about 5μm, 4μm, about 9 nm and about 2.5μm, the length of shorter sides is made the order of about 4μm. Thus, the electric resistance value of the MR element part 8 is not changed largely to operate constantly until it reaches its limit abrasion quantity.
