PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a strain detecting apparatus having a high sensitivity to measure a shearing strain, and easy in maintenance. SOLUTION: The strain detecting apparatus is provided with a shearing strain measuring unit 10 for shearing to deform a member to be measured corresponding to a shearing strainγ(=dX/dY) to detect the strain of the member, a pair of stays 11a 11b extended from the unit 10 substantially in a Y-axis direction, a holder 20 for elastically pressing the stays 11a, 11b to a seat 3a of the member 1 from an X-axis direction, and a bolt 30 for pressing the holder 20 via a belleville spring 24.
