摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a meteorological-information observation system by which accuracy of observation of a rainfall intensity can be increased, by a method wherein a vertical wind speed in a wide area can be observed. SOLUTION: By an operational-function changeover means 45a4, respective functions of a radar apparatus which comprises a function as a Doppler radar and a function as a double polarization radar are changed over and operated in a time sharing manner at a time interval of, e.g. 10 minutes. Then, by a first Doppler velocity measuring means 45a1, the maximum value VDmax and the minimum value VDmin of the Doppler velocity are found at the set angle of elevation of an antenna, e.g.θR. By a first velocity computing means 45a2, the falling velocity Vv of raindrops is determined on the basis of theθR, the VDmax and the VDmin on condition that the wind state is constant over a wide area. By a rainfall computing means 45a3, the rainfall intensity R per unit time is computed on the basis of the raindrop size and its distribution found by the double polarization radar.
