The invention concerns improved compositions of alditol acetal, in particular 1,3-2,4-di(benzylidene) sorbitol ("DBS") or one of its alkylated derivatives. Said compositions are improved in terms of washout and/or thermal stability, resulting from the combination of alditol acetal with a builder selected among tocopherols, polyols and some of their respective derivatives. Said builders can act as binding or densifying agents and/or stabilising or masking agents. The alditol acetal and the builder are advantageously combined by cold mixing, followed by granulation or compaction, also by cold process. The compositions, for example based on DBS or methylated derivatives of DBS are in the form of densified or compacted powders, granules, tablets or extrudates. They are particularly useful for preparing plastic or gelled materials, or additives for such materials.
