MEDICINAL COMPOSITIONS FOR TREATING OR PREVENTING INFLUENZA AND NOVEL CAPPED OLIGORIBONUCLEOTIDES

Medicinal compositions for treating or preventing influenza which contain capped oligoribonucleotides represented by the general formula (I): m<7>GpppXpY which are capable of binding to the PB2 protein of influenza virus RNA polymerase together with pharmaceutically acceptable carriers or diluents. In said formula, ppp represents a triphosphate linker; p represents a monophosphate linker; m<7>G represents 7-methylguanosine; X represents 2'-O-methylguanosine or guanosine; and Y represents an oligoribonucleotide consisting of 5 to 11 bases. The above compositions can inhibit the expression of the influenza virus protein.
