Sodium ion absorption inhibitors, sodium ion excretion accelerators and preventive and therapeutic agents for diseases resulting from excessive intake of common salt which contain salts of .lambda.-carrageenan with metals except sodium as the active ingredient can cause excess common salt taken in to be excreted outside the body aggressively and safely, and are particularly excellent in the effect of excreting sodium ions in faeces.
