Two half-shells are thermally bonded together, and also to an outer decorative material. Between the shells, a separate rigid interior is inserted. The half-shells comprise inner and outer shells, the outer being bonded to the covering. The shells have an integral hinge connecting them, and are made as a single component. An Independent claim is included for the corresponding method of construction. The shells are made of mixed fibers with a strong, high-melting component and a low-melting thermoplastic component. The low melting component is a thermoplastic plastics, preferably polypropylene. In thermal bonding of the components, which include fibrous mats, gas pressure is introduced between them during hot pressing. The strong fibers may be flax, hemp, sisal, jute, bast, wood fibers or their mixtures.
