<p>A plunger assembly (10) for obstructing the flow of fluid through a flexible tube (12) is provided. The assembly (10) comprises a plunger sleeve member (18) having a first open end (20) and a compression mechanism (34) for selectively contacting and compressing the flexible tube (12). The compression mechanism (34) has a contacting portion(36) for contacting the flexible tube (12) and an extending portion (42) with the extending portion (42) being slidably receivable within the plunger sleeve member (18) through the first open end (20) of the plunger sleeve member (18). A spring mechanism (54) is mounted about the extending portion (42) of the compression mechanism (34) and between the contacting portion (36) of the compression mechanism (34) and the first open end (20) of the plunger sleeve member (18) for providing selective movement to the compression mechanism (34) relative to the plunger sleeve member (18). A sensor mechanism (52) associated with the plunger sleeve (18) and the compression mechanism (34) is provided for translating the displacement of the compression means (34) relative to the plunger sleeve (18) to a measurement of force applied by the compression means (34) to the flexible tube (12).</p> |
