Optical detection apparatus

The apparatus has a rotating pulsed transmitter, a receiver, and plane mirrors aligned w.r.t. the rotated transmitted beam to reflect the beam in several pivot planes with non-parallel scan direction. The apparatus has a scanner with a transmitter of a collimated beam of electromagnetic pulses and a receiver (14) of pulses reflected from a monitored sector. The scanner beam is rotated. Several plane mirrors are arranged in the path of the rotated beam to reflect in several pivot planes as the beam rotates. An evaluation unit relative spatial co-ordinates of objects in the pivoting region from pulse transition times and angles. The plane mirrors (15,15',..17') are aligned w.r.t. the rotating beam so that they reflect the beam in several pivot planes with a non-parallel scan direction An Independent claim is also included for a scanner for the apparatus.
