The protective screen has individual inflatable segments (11). They cover the entire surface (e.g. active armor of a tank) to be protected. Each segment is blown out by a gas generator system (13), to mushroom out from a comparatively small casing (12). Each casing contains several such segments, one behind the other, conferring the benefit of redundancy.
