Assay for an analyte comprises forming a micellar dispersion contg.≥1 assay reagent, forming the dispersion into a film, contacting the film with the analyte to produce a detectable reaction, and detecting the reaction. Also claimed is a film as above in which the micellar dispersion comprises two immiscible phases, a surfactant and≥1 assay reagent, the micelles are distributed uniformly in the film and the film is supported on a carrier.
