PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain glass powder for a dental glass ionomer cement having properties such as biocompatibility and dentine adhesion which are the characteristics originally possessed by the dental glass ionomer cement and capable of providing excellent surface lubricative property and thickness of the coated membrane. SOLUTION: This glass powder for a dental glass ionomer cement is a fluoroaluminosilicate glass powder for the dental glass ionomer cement, having 2.4-4.0 specific gravity, 0.02-4μm average particle diameter and 2.5-6.0 m<2> /g BET specific surface area, and preferably having <4μm maximum particle diameter and comprising 10-21 wt.% Al<3+> , 9-21 wt.% Si<4+> , 1-20 wt.% F<-> and 10-34 wt.% total of Sr<2+> and Ca<2+> .
