ION EXCHANGE MEMBRANE AND ITS PRODUCTION THEREOF

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an ion exchange membrane having low electric resistance by laminating a layer of a polymer having ion exchange groups on at least one surface of a heterogeneous ion exchange membrane constituted from ion exchange resin particles and a binder polymer. SOLUTION: An ion exchange membrane is provided which is obtained by laminating a 0.1-100 μm thick layer of a polymer having ion exchange groups on at least either surface of a heterogeneous ion exchange membrane constituted from ion exchange resin particles and 30-60 wt.% hinder such as a mixture of a low-density polyethylene with an ethylene/propylene rubber. The surface on which the heterogeneous ion exchange membrane has been formed is ground and is then coated with a solution containing a 0.5-10 wt.% concentration of the polymer having ion exchange groups the same as that in the sign of charge to form a laminate. The polymer having ion exchange groups is exemplified by a poly(meth)acrylic acid, a polystyrenesulfonate or a poly(4-vinylpyridine).
