PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a staple nonwoven fabric with water-absorbing properties, having excellent moisture-absorbing and releasing properties and water-absorbing properties, high strengths and good dimensional stability. SOLUTION: This nonwoven fabric is formed out of a staple fiber having a sheath and core conjugated structure composed of a core component of a polyamide or a polyester, and a sheath component of a polyalkylene oxide modified product, or a mixture of the modified product with the polyamide or the polyester, and regulated so that the polyalkylene oxide-modified product of the core component may occupy 5-30 wt.% of the fiber weight, and keeps the prescribed shape by partial thermocompression welding. |
