PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of production of a stainless steel sintered body excellent in corrosion resistance, having mechanical properties equal to those of a melted material, and minimal in dispersion of surface harness. SOLUTION: This stain less steel sintered body is produced by subjecting a composition obtained by adding a binder to a raw-material powder blended so that it consists of, by weight, 16-20% Cr, 0.6-1.5% C, 0.1-2.0% Mo, and the balance essentially Fe to injection molding, subjecting the resultant green part to binder removing treatment, surrounding the green part after binder removal with a practically carbonaceous surrounding body, and sintering the green part in a nonoxidizing atmosphere. It is preferable that the raw material powder is composed of a powder mixture of alloy powders or powders of dissimilar composition and that the average grain size of respective alloy powders is <=57μm. Further, a vacuum, hydrogen, argon, or argon partial atmosphere is used as the nonoxidizing atmosphere.
