PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus for sensing a fault of a motor driver by providing a step-out sensible motor. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus uses a motor for sequentially switching exciting phases of a stepping motor to rotate as a power source. The apparatus comprises the stepping motor, a drive means 4 for supplying a drive pulse for driving the stepping motor to the stepping motor in a constant current chopper control type, a CPU 101 for supplying a signal for sequentially switching the phases to form the drive pulse by the means 4 to the drive means, a detecting means for detecting number of times of chopping under the control of the constant current chopper by the means 4, a step-out judging means for judging whether the motor is stepped out or not based on the number of times of chopping detected by the detecting means and the number of times of the chopping at the time of stepping out the motor operation, and a driver fault sensing means for judging whether the chopping is conducted or not. |
