PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a photopolymerization initiator useful for liquid crystal display devices having good response rates and voltage-holding characteristics, capable of reducing displayed afterimages and having excellent display qualities by introducing a liquid crystal-like skeleton into the molecule. SOLUTION: A photopolymerization initiator of formula I [(n) is an integer of >=1; A and B are each trans-cyclohexane ring, benzene ring or the like; (p) and (q) are each 0 or 1, where (p) and (q) are not simultaneously 0; X is a 1-3C alkyl or H; Y is methyl, ethyl or 1-3C alkoxy; Z is methyl, ethyl, a group of formula II or the like], for example, a compound of formula III. The photopolymerization initiator is added to a photopolymerizable resin material (for example, a photopolymerizable monomer such as an acrylic acid or its ester having a >=3C long chain alkyl group or an aromatic ring group) to give a photopolymerizable resin material composition. The photopolymerization initiator is preferably added in an amount of 0.3-40 wt.% based on the weight of the photopolymerizable material. |
