PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for effectively, producing a bisphenol free from fine particles inμm unit, or an extremely small amount thereof and a method for producing a polycarbonate using the bisphenol obtained by the above method. SOLUTION: This method for producing a bisphenol comprises reacting a phenol with a ketone to generate the bisphenol and then filtering the obtained liquid state bisphenol or a mixed liquid of the bisphenol and the phenol through a sintered metal filter. The filtration precision of the sintered metal filter is desirably <=1.0μm. The sintered metal filter after the filtration can be reused by a reverse washing or a chemical washing. The bisphenol is preferably bisphenol A.
