<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce the subject compound useful as an intermediate, etc., for medicines or agrochemicals by reacting an active methylene compound with a specific halide while carrying out the azeotropic distilling off of produced water using an alkali metal carbonate and a phase-transfer catalyst. SOLUTION: An active methylene compound represented by formula I [at least either one of P and Q is an electron attractive group and the other is H, a 1-6C alkyl, a 1-4C alkoxy, a (substituted)benzyl or a (substituted)phenyl when only either one thereof is the electron attractive group; P and Q may annularly be bound to form a cyclic structure such as a cycloalkanone, a lactone or a lactam] (e.g. dimethyl malonate) is reacted with a mono- or a disubstituted halide represented by formula II [X is Cl, Br, I, H or the like; (n) is 2-6] (e.g. 1,2-dichloroethane) while carrying out the azeotropic distilling off of produced water using an alkali metal carbonate (e.g. potassium carbonate) and a phase- transfer catalyst (e.g. tetra-n-butylammonium chloride) to thereby afford the objective compound.</p> |
