A working blade (3) is urged by one or more hydraulic cylinders (6-8) against a contact blade (10) adjustably mounted in the press stand (1). During cutting or punching a device (9) is used to apply a constant pressure from the stand to the contact blade. An independent claim is also included for a cutting or punching method carried out using this press.
