PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new enzyme useful for screening of an antibacterial compound or treatment and diagnosis, etc., of infection of a bacterium belonging to genus Streptococcus, comprising a polypeptide containing an amino acid sequence having high identify at various levels to a specific amino acid sequence. SOLUTION: This new isolated histidine kinase polypeptide is composed of an isolated polypeptide containing amino acid sequences having at least 70% identity, 80% identity, 90% identity and 95% identity to an amino acid sequence of formula I or formula II in whole length of the formula I or the formula II, an isolated polypeptide containing an amino acid sequence of the formula I or the formula II and an isolated polypeptide, etc., as an amino acid sequence of the formula I or the formula II and is useful for screening of an antibacterial compound or treatment and diagnosis, etc., of Streptococcus pneumoniae infection. The enzyme is obtained by probing a Streptococcus pneumoniae chromosome DNA library with a labeled oligonucleotide derived from a partial sequence and manifesting the resultant polynucleotide with a manifesting system. |
