[Class 17 (i)] In a heel-attaching machine, each of the drivers is provided with a spring plunger 28 on its outer side, to tip the nail so that the directions in which the nails are driven converge, to prevent nails emerging at the sides of the heel. The guide passage is provided with a sleeve 36 with a bevelled edge urged against the insole by a spring 42. The operative end of the driver may be flat, or bevelled outwardly, to ensure that the head of the nail will not project from the insole, in spite of the concavity of the heel seat.
