Drugs containing as the active ingredient xanthine derivatives represented by general formula (I) (for example, (E)-8-(3,4-dimethoxystyryl)-1,3-diethyl-7-methylxanthine) or pharmacologically acceptable salts thereof and being useful in preventing or treating sleep disturbance such as narcolepsy, recurrent hypersomnia or circadian rhythm sleep disorder. In said formula, R<1>, R<2>, and R<3> represent each hydrogen, lower alkyl, etc.; R<4> represents cycloalkyl, -(CH2)n-R<5> (wherein R<5> represents optionally substituted aryl, etc.; and n is an integer of 0 to 4), etc.; and X<1> and X<2? represent each O or S. |
