The liquid crystal display unit consists of an LCD panel (300), a light source (110), a front mounting frame (190) and a back mounting frame (400) joined at their sides. The side faces of the frames are at right angles to the screen and are fixed by screws (430). The second mounting frame (400) protects the LCD screen. The illumination unit, mounted between the frames, consists of a reflector (140), the light source, a light guide plate (130), a protection plate (150), a prism plate (160) and a light scattering plate (180) behind the LCD screen. The whole assembly is mounted between the two parts of a housing. The mounting frames may be fixed by adhesives, such as double-sided tape.
