PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic camera capable of photographing an image focused on an object desired by a photographer even in the case that a distance from the object rapidly fluctuates or in the case that many objects of different focus distances are present around the object. SOLUTION: This high-speed focusing electronic camera 1000 is provided with a high-speed variable focus lens 1 capable of instantaneously changing the focus distance, the driving circuit 7 therefor, a CCD image pickup element 3 for converting formed images to image signals, an image memory cell 8 for preserving the image signals for plural sheets, a liquid crystal monitor display device 5 and a controller 6 for controlling them. In one photographing operation, the controller 6 makes the CCD image pickup element 3 pick up the plural sheets of the images of the different focus distances while moving the focus of the high-speed variable focus lens 1 between a long distance and a short distance at a high speed and preserves the image signals in the image memory cell 8. After photographing, the photographer selects the image focused on the desired object. |
