PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device capable of obtaining uniform display quality by compensating a change in an electrooptic characteristic due to the local temp. raise of a liquid crystal display element by heat in the back light source. SOLUTION: The value ofΔnd of a region near the light source 10 of a liquid crystal display element 10 is made larger than the in a normal temp. region where the heat of a light source 22 almost does not affect by making the thickness d2 of the liquid crystal layer in the region near the light source corresponding to the light source 22 side of back light 20 of the liquid crystal display element 10 larger than the thickness d1 of the liquid crystal layer in another region. Then, the value ofΔnd of the region near the light source where a temp. is raised by the influence of the heat generation of the light source 22 is made so as to become near the value ofΔnd in the normal temp. region when this device performs a display by lighting the light source 22.
