PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To encode both a voice and music at necessary irreducible bit rates with high efficiency and high quality by selecting music encoding from a next frame when it is decided that the error between an input signal and a reproduced voice is larger than a predetermined threshold value. SOLUTION: An encoder 5 encodes a linear prediction filter coefficient, pitch information, and a code number and supplies the results to a switching unit 6. The switching unit 6 performs switching control between code-driven linear predictive voice encoding and music encoding according to the error between a synthesized voice and a source sound which is supplied from a code book search unit 3 and the power of the voice signal supplied from a power detector 8. In this case, when the error between the synthesized voice and source voice does not exceed the predetermined threshold value, the switching unit 6 continues to select the code-driven linear predictive voice encoding. When the error exceeds the threshold value, on the other hand, the switching unit 6 switches the encoding to the music encoding and performs a process. |
