PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a display color shifted to blue of a high color temperature with a high transmission factor without changing color purity by setting up the areas of blue, green and red picture elements in a specific relation. SOLUTION: Picture elements 1 to 3 for transmitting red, green and blue light components are arranged on a color filter 44 and beams other than beams passing the picture elements 1 to 3 are shaded by a black matrix 45 between the picture elements 1 to 3. When it is defined that respective areas of blue, green and red picture elements 1 to 3 are (b), (g) and (r), 0.9b>g>=r is formed. Even when the same quantity of light is made incident upon respective picture elements 1 to 3 of the color filter 44, many blue components are included in transmitted light because the area of the blue color elements 3 is larger than the area of green picture elements 2 or the area of red picture elements 1. Consequently a white display color can be shifted to a blue direction while maintaining a high transmission factor without adjusting the reduction of double refraction of liquid crystal or the layer thickness of liquid crystal, so that a display color shifted to blue with a high color temperature can be obtained with a high transmission factor. |
