PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a remote control device of such a structure that both a left-handed and right-handed operator can operate very simply. SOLUTION: An EL system back light (electroluminescence) is installed behind a liquid crystal display 4 and is put on and off by a back light switch 8. Under the switches, the rotary shaft of a jog dial 5 is installed in vertical arrangement parallel with this illustration paper. Centering on the rotary shaft, the jog dial 5 is equipped with a disc-shaped operation part, which is partially protruded from an opening provided in a remote control case 100. The first switch is put on by pushing a release button 9 to the half stroke while the second switch is put on when the button 9 is pushed in the full stroke, and a member 10 is made slidable in the vertical direction, and the first and second switches can be locked in the on condition by sliding up the release button 9 in the fully pushed condition.
