The band has an elastic loop (1) that is passed around the object so as to grip it. A ribbon (2) is connected to the elastic loop at one of its ends. The loop is formed partly from a length of elastic ribbon (4) and partly from a length of inelastic ribbon (5). The ribbon that is attached to the loop is made of inelastic material and is formed from an extension of the inelastic ribbon that is used to form the loop.
