PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discrimination apparatus for a foreign body on paper sheets, by which whether the foreign body such as a nonglossy mending tape or the like is pasted or not on the paper sheets which are conveyed at a high speed can be discriminated with good efficiency. SOLUTION: A detecting point P on a bill B which is conveyed at a high speed in a conveyance direction F is irradiated with an infrared light from an infrared light source 111 at an irradiation angle of 78 deg.. Photodiode elements receive the distribution of quantities of reflected light from the detecting point P within a range of an angle of reflection of about 78 deg.. A channel selection part 120b selects, out of the photodiode elements, the photodiode element whose quantity of received light is maximum and the photodiode element which is adjacent to the photodiode element. A ratio computing part 120c computes the ratio of the quantity of received light of the photodiode element whose quantity of received light is maximum to the quantity of received light of the photodiode element which is adjacent to the photodiode element. A parameter computing part 120d computes a parameter on the basis of the ratio. A judgment part 120f discriminates a foreign body on the detecting point P on the bill B on the basis of the parameter. |
