The invention relates to a method for producing a polyester-based coating powder composition by a) heating A) 99-40 wt. % polyester precondensates and/or monomers used for producing them, B) 1-60 wt. % pigments and C) 0-10 wt. % wetting additives and/or other usual coating additives together or separately to a temperature of 120-200 DEG C, the weight percentages totalling 100 %, b) mixing the constituents A), B) and C) homogeneously, applying shear forces and maintaining the heating temperature, c) dispersing the mixture obtained in a dispersion medium at a temperature equal to or above the melting temperature of the original constituents A), B) and C), the polyester-precondensate A) and or the monomers being polycondensed further, and d) cooling the mixture and adding a usual cross-linking agent for the polyester and optionally, the usual additives at a temperature of 60 to 140 DEG C.
