A 4'-O-demethyl-epipodophyllotoxin- beta -D-glucoside acetal derivative of formula (I), wherein R<1> and R<2> are, each independently, hydrogen, a C2-12 alkenyl, a C2-12 alkynyl, C2-12 alkoxylalkyl or cyclopropyl group optionally substituted with one or more radicals selected from the group consisting of alkoxy, phenyl, substituted phenyl, halogen, nitro, cyano, hydroxy, carboxyl and amino groups, with the proviso that R<1> and R<2> are not hydrogen simultaneously; or R<1> and R<2>, together with the carbon atom to which they are attached, form an unsaturated C5-15 ring optionally substituted with one or more radicals selected from the group consisting of alkoxy, phenyl, substituted phenyl, halogen, nitro, cyano, hydroxy, carboxyl and amino groups.
