A filter element consists of a folded pack of thermoplastic heat-weldable fleece, whose longer outer edges each have a sealed tape (4, 5) edge, the height of which is essentially the same as that of the folded pack. One of the outer edges (2, 3) incorporates a recess (6) with respect to the edge 82) of the pack (1). The recess (6) is created by the application of a heated shape (9) or an ultrasonic emitter.
