The warp threads (4,4') on a circular loom are pushed apart by spreaders (24,24') fitted to the shuttle (2) in order to allow sufficient room for the pirn (23). Sliding contact with the yarns (4,4') is through two surfaces spaced apart and parallel to the longitudinal axis of the spreader (24,24'). The spreader can consist of two tubes with cooling perforations and joined by a spacer (245). An Independent claim is also included for a spreader with a partially open section made of high conductivity material, e.g. copper, brass, aluminum, with the sliding surfaces coated with a low friction material.
