The pocket flap (P) is positioned in a traveling sewed item holder of a sewing unit in the future working position thereof in order to sew pre-sewn pocket flaps (P) on a sewn part (W), whereby the pocket flap partially overlaps a pocket (T) which is to be sewn on the sewed part (W). After the work piece parts (W, P, T) are supplied to the sewing machine, the pocket flap (P) is first connected to the sewed part (W) using a seam (N1). Afterwards, the part of the pocket flap (P) which overlaps the pocket (T) is turned over and the pocket (T) is then connected to the sewed part (W) using a seam (N2).
