<p>The present invention is directed to improved burglar- and weather-resistant cover (10) for an opening such as a door or window. The cover (10) includes a pair of opposed and generally parallel tracks (11) with an upper housing (12) extending therebetween. A plurality of louvers (13) are generally parallel and connected to the upper housing (12) by a first cable (16) in a manner that allows the first cable (16) to be coiled, and to a pair of second cables (17) which engage the louvers (13) in a manner that spaces the louvers (13) at regualar intervals. The cover (10) further includes a pair of locking members (26), with each locking member (26) coupled to one of the tracks (11) and movable between a first position and a second position. The locking members (26) are adapted to automatically move from the first to the second position when the louvers (13) are deployed from a retracted position to a deployed position. The cover (10) further includes a plurality of spacing members (19) positioned at regular intervals along the second cables (17) and engaging the horizontal flanges (14) of the louvers (13) such that the vertical flange (15) of one louver (13) overlaps the next lower louver (13). The spacing members (19) prevent movement of the engaged louvers (13) in either direction along the second cables (17), thereby preventing the separation of adjacent louvers (13).</p> |
