The invention relates to a method for producing an essentially fibre-free carboxy methyl cellulose with predominantly elastic properties. The invention also relates to the use thereof as super absorbent material and as an auxiliary agent to regulate rheology and water retention in fields such as cosmetics, pharmacy, foodstuffs and in technical applications such as additives for paint, cable sealing or tunnel building and civil and underground engineering.
