摘要 A magnetic recording medium is produced by inclined vapor deposition of a ferromagnetic metallic material onto a traveling polymer film (22) which is inclined at 20-80 deg to the horizontal. Independent claims are also included for the following: (i) a similar process in which the vapor incidence angle is 35-90 deg w.r.t. The normal to the film surface; (ii) magnetic recording medium production equipment comprising a flat endless belt (32) which travels around two cooling drums (23a, 23b) and a vapor source for vapor deposition of a ferromagnetic metallic material onto a polymer film (22) which travels on the surface of the endless belt (32) and which is inclined at 20-80 deg to the horizontal; and (iii) a magnetic recording medium comprising a polymer film (22) with an average surface roughness of 5-50 nm and a ferromagnetic metallic thin film vapor deposited at an angle onto the polymer film surface, the ratio of the average surface roughness of the ferromagnetic metallic thin film to that of the polymer film being 1.0-1.3. Preferred Features: The polymer film (22) is inclined at a constant angle ( eta ) of <= 30 deg . The vapor deposition angle (w) is 18-60 deg .
