High temperature superconductor for use in superconducting fault current limiter

The superconductor (1) has a support layer (2), a superconducting layer (3) applied on top in the form, for example, of a YBCO film and a thermal stabilizing layer (4) applied on top of this made out of normally conducting material. The stabilizing layer has breaks of short length in the current flow direction. The length at a still-possible thermal leakage of a heating up of the superconducting layer, in the region of the break, is oriented into the stabilizing layer. The stabilizing layer is designed as a variable layer relative to the current flow direction. Independent claims are included for a fault current limiter and a power supply esp. for HTSL magnets.
