The drain consists of a catheter (1, 2) with one end positioned in the zone to be drained and the other connected to a drain bag (3). It also incorporates a meter (4) for measuring the pressure in the drain zone and an external flow controller (5) on the catheter, actuated by an electronically controlled power unit (10) when the pressure rises above a predetermined threshold. The flow controller is designed to operate progressively and is in the form of a compression valve on the catheter. The pressure meter is situated between catheter sections connected to the drain zone and the bag, or it can be in the form of a separate implantable catheter with a sensor on its distal end.
