System for sorting and storing documents

The document sorting and storage system includes a valve system (2) able to pass from a first bottom position to a second top position. The first position directs the documents to an upper zone (Z2) and the second position directing them to a lower zone (Z1). A document stacking tank (3) is located in the upper zone. A control circuit (CC) controls the setting of the valve into the first or second position. The valve is set in the top or bottom position before the arrival of a document at the valve according to whether this document is to be directed to the bottom or top position.
