<p>Determination of the position of an array of sensors used to determine the physical or geometrical properties of a test object by use of an arrangement of position coders in conjunction with a positioning device having multiple degrees of freedom. The assembly comprises a strip (4) of sensors (5) supported by a mechanism (1,2,3) having multiple degrees of freedom, which can be manipulated by an operator relative to a test piece. The articulations and axes of the mechanism have position coders whose output signals are used in determination of the strip position. The geometry of the test piece is pre-loaded into the memory of the controlling device and calculator. Once the calculator is initiated it determines and records the position and orientation of the probes (5) correlated with the measurements made by them.</p> |
